The capital city of Seoul in South Korea - 2004 East Asia, near
Japan, South Korea is a country that not many people have heard of.
But we now know more this country since the amazing Football World
Cup in 2003 that saw the entire country supporting their team up to
the semi-finals. And their capital, Seoul, is full of charm, traditional,

Traditional village of Amed in Bali, Indonesia - 2003 Bali has suffered
tremendously of the terrorist attack in October 2002 and still can
feel the pain. However, remote places like Amed, still lives as nothing
happened. This small traditionnal village just lives with their daily

The Khmer temples of Thailand - 2003 In
Isaan, the Eastern region of Thailand, many Khmers temples still hold
the ground. The Thai government has had in the last decade a renovation
policy that makes today these temples a good overview of what can
be Angkor Wat in Cambodia. See

The Monks of Thailand - 2003
Here follows a photography selection of monks of Thailand. In Buddhism
religion, every Thai man has to complete at least once in their lifetime
a religious duty. They need to forget about their current way of living
and become a monk for spiritual achievement and wisdom. Many children
also at a very young age, can follow the way of Buddha. Being cared
by spiritual teachers, they can learn and study Buddhism that will

The Pasola Festival in Sumba, Indonesia - 2002
Sumba, a small Indonesian island not far from Timor, holds every year
the Pasola Festival. It is a ceremony dedicated to their Animist Gods
and horse is their spiritual representation on Earth. For centuries,
this animal has been the cornerstone of the Sumbanese society and
nowadays has become the Symbol of Sumba. See

Funerals and Sacrifice in Sumba, Indonesia - 2002
In August 2001, the Eastern part of Sumba held an important funeral
ceremony. The sixth woman of the Raja (King) was being buried in the
traditional village of Rende. To accompany her spirit to the Animist
Heaven, a number of bull and horse needed to be sacrificed. See

Hindu ceremonies in Bali, Indonesia - 2002 / 2003
Bali is known worldwide as the land of the thousand Temples. There is
not one place in Bali where you cannot see a temple or an altar for
the Hindu Gods. Offerings of flowers, encens and fruits is a daily activity
for the Balinese people. Every year are held important ceremonies like
Gallungan, Kunningan and Nyepi and is worth witnessing it. See

Cremation in Bali, Indonesia - 2002
Cremations in Bali traditionally take place in August. When the physical
body of people die, they are buried only for their bones and remains
to be collected a few months later for the cremation. It is only at
this time, when remains are burnt and ashes thrown at sea that the Balinese
spirit of the dead will go to Heaven. See

Sasak Festival in Lombok, Indonesia - 2002
Every month of August in Lombok, the eastern island near Bali, takes
place traditional festival, such as the Sasak fightings. The native
Sasaks, are a fierce and proud people who had to face in the past foreign
invaders. To celebrate this, young men will fight each other with simple
bamboo stick as a weapon and a wooden shield as protection. See

Thaipusam Festival in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia - 2002
Hindu people in Malaysia, but also in Singapore, will every year celebrate
the Thaipusam festival and bring offerings to their temple. Not only
this, but to prove also their true faith to the Gods, people will pierce
their physical appearance with pikes, hooks and other items. In Hindu
religion, the body does not mean much and is only a host for the true
